Alberta's international exports forecast to slow after years of sizzling growth; Agriculture to remain strong
Alberta's international exports are forecast to slow considerably after years of sizzling growth.
Export Development Canada says the province's exports are expected to grow by only one per cent this year and two per cent next year.
Stephen Poloz, EDC's chief economist, says the energy sector and the U.S. economy are cooling off.
Almost 90 per cent of Alberta's international exports go the U.S.
Poloz says weaker oil prices are expected over the next two to three years, but natural gas prices should increase somewhat.
Agriculture is about the only export sector that is expected to maintain strong growth.
